ROSTOV ON DON : 2019
EVENT INFORMATION
DATE: July 18 - 21, 2019
LOCATION: Big Lake, MN
With the success and positive feedback from 2018's Kursk themed event, we've decided to host another event in July of 2019. This event will again be Eastern Front, with the theme revolving around the fighting to the west of Rostov on Don in 1942.
Accepted impressions this year will include Red Army, Heer, and Italian.
We do encourage people with correct vehicles for the time period to contact us if they're interested in bringing them out (no lend lease vehicles, or any that weren't used in 1942).
We will again not be allowing Partisans, and this year we will not be allowing SS. This is an immersion event and material culture will be meticulously enforced. Those who arrive incompliant will be asked to remove incorrect items, change them out, or not enter the field if they cannot be corrected onsite. The event will begin at 8am Friday morning and end at 8am on Sunday morning. All particpants must clear the field by 10am on sunday. Thursday afternoon will serve as an open improvement day where anyone can arrive and freely help clear undergrowth, fix structures, etc.
This is an immersion based tactical event. The scenario will be set in the beginning hours of the event, but will be fluid for the following duration of the weekend.
Our goal is to capture the feelings of helplessness and exhaustion characterizing the Red Army in summer of 1942, as well as the stress of the overstretched and undersupplied Wehrmacht.
S&A will take place 8AM Friday morning, followed by an initial scenario that will set the stage for the rest of the event. For those arriving on site at later times, we will have several more S&A windows open throughout the weekend, making sure people cannot enter the field without being approved. The event will conclude Sunday at 8AM, and we strongly discourage anyone from returning to the parking lot during the event, in which case you will have to be rechecked before returning to the field.
There will be no set time for when “the battle starts”, or any pre scripted scenarios. The battlefield is in play the entire weekend. Units will be assigned positions, given orders and will be expected to complete the tasks given to them using period tactics. Attacks will be based on accurate intel gathered from reconnaissance and reports from front line units.
The battle never really stops until Sunday; the only exception is that there can be NO gunfire at night between the hours of 21:00-09:00 (9PM and 9AM) - this comes directly from the local police department. This does not stop the battle or end the threat posed by the enemy. The 2018 event saw significant use of night ops for listening and infiltration.
There will be no “walking dead” or “helmet in the air” at this event! When you take a hit, you must wait for treatment from a medic, or return to the aid station with help from a comrade. If you need to rest, you will need to be reassigned by headquarters to complete more work at the CP. There will be no lounging around the battlefield. You are either in play or making your way back to the aid station; there is no “just hanging out” option anywhere on the battlefield.
This event will be respect pre-existing reenactment groups, and will be structuring units as needed to achieve maximum strength. The unit rosters will be published shortly before the event. For this reason, it is crucial for those planning to bring heavy weapons, vehicles, or other unique equipment to contact us directly for relevant placement.
The authenticity regulations are an attempt to cover all the bases of uniforms and equipment we expect to see, but do not represent a minimum or maximum standard, only what items will be allowed and what will not. We will turn people away at the gate and without refund, if you violate these standards! You have several months to tweak your impression to avoid this.
Coordinators will be making themselves available to answer any questions you may have and assist in any way possible to encourage growth and positive changes to anyone’s impression.
You may submit a photo of you in your kit front and back if you are unsure of anything and want to avoid being turned away at the gate. Photos can be posted on the discussion board on the event Facebook page
